Starting in Fall 2020, Quarantutors will be inviting educational professionals to give brief seminars over Zoom to train tutors and give advice on successful tutoring.
Throughout August, Ms. Francesca de la Torre, a high school teacher at the Academy of Notre Dame de Namur in Pennsylvania, is giving informative talks on various interpersonal aspects of one-on-one tutoring. Each seminar includes a 15-minute Q&A session for tutors to ask questions live. All seminar times below are listed in Pacific Standard Time.
Tutors working with Quarantutors should check their email inboxes or student assignment emails for Zoom links to the seminars. Please email the Quarantutors Team for a website link to access recordings of previous seminars.
All session times are listed in Pacific Standard Time.
Quarantutors was the difference between struggling with online schooling and excelling at it. Earlier in the school year, we had hired a tutor to help our son with math and it was OK, but, through Quarantutors, he was paired with Eliza, a neuroscience major at Barnard. He had such an easy rapport with her and her teaching was more accessible than anything we've ever experienced. This service is truly a godsend!

Responsive, prepared and high-quality tutors with great communication skills! My daughter received the math support she needed in a timely manner during the COVID-19 pandemic. I loved how the tutor asked for specific problems and topics before sessions to make the most of their time together. Thank you!!
– Maria, Parent from San Jose, CA
My tutor helped me understand an entire math course within two weeks to prepare for an exam. He was always responsive to emails and well-prepared for the sessions. His clear explanations and tips definitely helped me during the test!

Dear Quarantutors Team,
Thank you so much for organizing student tutoring during this pandemic crisis. Our children are at risk for the lack of education from schools and teachers who are not equipped with distance teaching. You recognized this concern and made a difference for all of us.
My son, Jaiden, is so blessed to have Kate Mason as his English tutor. As an upcoming senior in high school, Kate exhibits professionalism in each of her sessions. She is well organized, mature, listens to my needs, and demonstrates positive encouragement. She never assumes that "you should know this," but patiently reviews and explains the topic and goes back to the basics. She is more compassionate and knowledgeable than some teachers I have met.
Jaiden previously expressed in one of his writing assignments that he doesn't like tutoring, but now he appreciates having Kate work with him. This is a transformation.
Quarantutors Team, I can't thank you enough and keep up the GREAT work!
– Michelle, Parent from San Francisco, CA
We are so grateful to the Quarantutors team for this innovative idea of connecting children during quarantine. The time our daughter spends with her tutor is always so exciting and she is learning a new language too. I hope this program can continue even after quarantine ends!
– Keren Moses, Parent from India
We just had our first session with Emily and I want to thank Quarantutors for setting up this amazing program. Emily was amazing and my daughter loved working with her. I am so grateful to her and Quarantutors for the lifeline for my daughter's ongoing learning during this time. Thank you so much!
– Roo Niermann, Parent from Palo Alto, CA
My daughter is in grade 4 and I was looking for a tutor to help with her reading comprehension & spelling. Initially I was wary about Quarantutors because the tutors were mostly students and I was not sure whether schedules for sessions would be consistent week to week. Now, we are almost 10 sessions in and her tutor has been on time, consistent, could easily engage with my shy daughter, would give me summary at the end of every session, and include homework sheets. We have used many tutors in the past (having 3 children, one in college) and my experience with Quarantutor has been excellent! I have recommended it to a few of my mom friends as well.
– Catherine L., Parent
Thank you so much to the Quarantutors Team and tutors during these times of crisis. My son Josmar is currently in 3rd grade at a dual immersion elementary school. My son's learning in the English language has been slow since he is studying two languages at the same time. Triya Basu from Los Altos High School, my son's tutor, has worked with him two times a week in mathematics. Triya is an excellent student, she was a good influence for Josmar and always motivated my son to persevere in the matter. At this time my son learned advanced mathematics. Thank you, Triya, for your time, dedication, effort, enthusiasm, and great heart in sharing your knowledge. My family and I wish you success in your life.
– Parent from Mountain View, CA
My son Rohith likes these sessions and his instructor, Ava Eckburg, is a very good tutor. After she goes through the topics, she reviews at the end. Happy my son is learning new concepts!
– Anu, Parent from Fremont, CA
I love Quarantutors! They really came in the nick of time to help my daughter through her English, math, and science.
– Parent from Fremont, CA
I signed my daughter up for a Quarantutor. She loves her tutor. My daughter's tutor is a high school student from New York. We live in San Jose, CA. They clicked and her tutor improved her writing skills within the first session. They have also worked on math together. I am so very appreciative for the services made available by Quarantutors.
– Lorraine, parent from San Jose, CA
Our kids have enjoyed learning from Quarantutors! Thanks for helping us.

Creative Writing was a fun, easy and engaging class for me. It had all the elements that I like: the teacher let us write on our own, covered the topics that I was struggling with, and most importantly created a very engaging class.
– Kanushi, middle school student, on the Creative Writing summer class
First and foremost, I want to say you girls and guys are doing an amazing job. This summer was not a usual summer but you guys have shown that kids can turn around any situation faster and better. You were able to kick start an idea and bring to fruition, deliver results and impact the community in a positive way like nobody else.
One of your team members, Aryan Lalwani, did an amazing job with Biology. My son has not studied biology till date as he is just a six grader but Aryan has motivated him in a very positive way. He was able to explain the kids a very complicated topic in a simple way & at the same engage the group as a whole. My son is now looking to explore Biology in the year 2020 and expand his knowledge in the subject.
I would like to thank Aryan & the entire Quarantutors team for the awesome job this summer. Wish you guys the very best.
– Parent of a middle school student on the Biology summer class
Jacob was a phenomenal Calculus tutor. He made sure we understood each new concept thoroughly, and never failed to have an excellent lesson plan ready to go for each class. I highly recommend both Jacob and the Quarantutors program.
– Ace J., high school student from Orange County, CA, on the Calculus summer class
This was a great introduction to dance for my seven-year-old! She had fun trying out different kinds of dance and dancing to the music. Friendly teacher!
